On Saturday afternoon we went round to see Mark and Christina Francis. Rowan befriended Toby at swimming lessons and has been desperate to go to Toby's house ever since. Toby has a brother, Bradley, who is younger than Sean. All the boys had a great, if noisy time, while we had a chat. Mark works for Standard Life too and has played a couple of games of cricket for us. As a tall Jamaican I'd hoped he'd be a demon fast bowler but he wasn't quite Courtney Walsh material!
Our sociable weekend continued with dinner next door at Betty and Ian's. As ever the fare was better than you would get in most restaurants. Crab with a salsa and lime mayonnaise to start with then a rack of lamb with potato dauphinoise and celeriac and finally a trio of desserts. All served with fine wine. We had an excellent time. It's rare enough for us to be invited out to dinner and Betty and Ian set the standard. After dining there we can appreciate why others feel they can't live up to our standard after being at ours for dinner. To be honest we don't think we're any great shakes: it's not a competition, all we enjoy is company and decent grub!
Sunday was a relatively lazy day after all the eating and drinking of the weekend, but we still had room for one more meal as Philip, Margaret and Miriam came over for a long overdue visit, seeing Angus for the first time.
